The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State has disclosed that it has exposed a purported plan by officials of the Benue State government to organize protests against President Bola Tinubu, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Senator George Akume, and the Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

In a statement issued yesterday by the party’s spokesperson, Daniel Ihomun, it was claimed that the objective of the planned protest is to obstruct the president from approving the recent Senate resolution that halts the release of funds to local government caretaker committees nationwide. Ihomun alleged, “This plot has been deeply hatched, and their first experimental step was the call on the party chairman in the state, Comrade Austin Agada, to resign without advancing any genuine reason.”

Expressing concern, Ihomun remarked, “The party views this act of sabotage as portending grave danger to the unity of the state and the party. If people who claim APC membership and are working under an APC state government would undermine their President, the Senate President, and the SGF in an open protest in their quest to stifle the hands of government on a matter.”

He criticized the organizers for taking steps that could embarrass the President and his administration, deeming it unacceptable and urging law enforcement to closely monitor the planned protest, which he believes might disguise itself as a solidarity march but has a sinister motive.

The APC also called on Governor Hyacinth Iornem Alia to keep a vigilant eye on unscrupulous elements around his government allegedly using his name for actions that could lead to anarchy, necessitating a declaration of a state of emergency. Ihomun further enjoined security agencies in the state to be on high alert to counter the activities of the group that appears to undermine the state’s peace and promote divisive tendencies, cautioning the public to take note of what he described as a “Nollywood script.”
