The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ahiaukwu Ward 2, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, has suspended the party’s state secretary, Mr. Chidi Avajah, over alleged violations of the party’s constitution.
The decision, announced in a statement signed by the Acting Ward Chairman, Nwabueze Ndumele, and Secretary, Ifeanyichukwu John, followed a ward meeting held on Saturday at the Okaiuga Civic Hall in Okwu Olokoro.
According to the statement made available to The PUNCH on Monday, Mr. Avajah was suspended for allegedly hijacking party structures and bypassing democratic processes. He was specifically accused of unilaterally appointing an acting ward chairman following the death of the previous occupant of the position, a move party officials said was in contravention of APC’s internal rules.
“The party further resolved to suspend the state secretary, Chief Chidi Avajah, for violating Article 21, Section A, subsections ii, vi, and vii of the constitution of our great party,” the statement read.
The ward also accused Avajah of failing to fulfill his financial obligations as a party member, citing a lack of evidence that he had paid monthly dues. This, they said, contravenes Article 9, Section 9.2, Subsection ii of the APC constitution.
In addition, the ward announced the suspension of another member, Mr. Onyekwere Chibuike Sylvester, over allegations of impersonation. He was accused of presenting himself as the ward chairman without legitimate authority, allegedly breaching Article 21, Section A, Subsection iv.
In response to the accusations, the party has constituted a seven-member disciplinary committee to investigate the allegations levelled against both individuals.
“The party shall enthrone discipline and adhere strictly to the provisions of our revered party constitution,” the statement continued. “They also resolved to work harder to strengthen the party in the ward with the aim of delivering all candidates on the platform of the party at the 2027 general election.”
As of the time of filing this report, Mr. Chidi Avajah has not issued a public response to the allegations or his suspension.
