Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has directed contractors working on the Umuahia Mega Bus Terminal to expand surrounding roads to ease vehicular movement. The governor made this announcement on Sunday during an inspection visit to the project site, expressing satisfaction with the ongoing work but highlighting the need for adjustments.

Governor Otti noted, “The contractors are performing well and working according to schedule. However, there are a few areas that need modification. I’ve asked them to expand the roads, particularly around the Cooperative Roundabout, to improve junctions and traffic light installations.”

The governor compared the Umuahia project to the successful transport terminal in Oshodi, Lagos State. He said, “We are replicating what was done in Oshodi. The railway, buses, shopping centers, hotels, and recreational areas will all converge here. It will transform Umuahia into a well-organized capital, bringing an end to the numerous scattered parks.”

While Governor Otti acknowledged that the project may not generate immediate revenue, he expressed confidence that it will yield long-term financial benefits, adding that the primary goal is to enhance the city’s aesthetics and functionality.

Earlier in the day, during a worship service at Dunamis Church, Umuahia, Otti thanked the congregation for their support during his election and assured them that his administration prioritizes the welfare of the people. He reiterated his commitment to paying salary arrears left by previous administrations and emphasized that the government’s funds will be used for the people’s benefit.

Joining the governor on the inspection visit were Hon. Obi Aguocha, lawmaker representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North & South Federal Constituency; Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Austin Okezie Nmerekini; Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Kenneth Kalu; and Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, among other top officials.

Governor Otti concluded by stating that the Umuahia Mega Bus Terminal project will help attract businesses and make the capital city more conducive for both residents and visitors.
