Former Gombe State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala, has categorically denied claims that he has resigned from the party, dismissing a circulating resignation letter dated May 18, 2025, as “entirely false and deceptive.”
In a personally signed statement released on Friday, Bala described the letter as a fabrication orchestrated by “mischievous elements” both within and outside the party, aimed at discrediting him and destabilizing the party’s internal structure.
“I have not resigned from my position as the Deputy National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress,” Bala stated firmly. “The timing and content of this fake resignation letter are not only misleading but also riddled with glaring contradictions.”
He cited a key event on July 2, 2025, during which former ADC National Chairman Ralph Nwosu publicly resigned at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja and made a specific mention of Bala’s continued status.
“Ralph Nwosu clearly stated before the global media that ‘Nafiu Bala did not resign as the Deputy National Chairman,’” Bala emphasized, calling the incident clear evidence against the resignation claim.
Bala further pointed out inconsistencies between the forged letter and official ADC communication standards, noting that the alleged document lacked party letterhead, emblem, or insignia — standard markers of authentic correspondence from his office.
“All my official communications are issued on headed paper bearing the ADC’s emblem. The fake letter was written on plain paper. That alone raises serious questions about its authenticity,” he noted.
Leadership Dispute and Constitutional Violations
Beyond the alleged resignation letter, Bala raised concerns about individuals attempting to claim leadership positions within the ADC without meeting constitutional requirements.
“The ADC Constitution mandates that any aspirant to a leadership role must have been a financial member for at least one year. This provision remains unchanged,” he said. “Those attempting to circumvent this process should not be recognized.”
He described such attempts as a threat to the party’s integrity and called on loyal members to remain vigilant.
“The integrity of our party’s governance structures must be preserved. Any actions taken outside of these formal processes cannot be recognized as legitimate.”
Call for Unity and Vigilance
In closing, Bala urged ADC members and the general public to dismiss the misinformation and continue working toward the party’s shared goals.
“Our party is built on the principles of democracy, transparency, and integrity,” he said. “I reaffirm my commitment to the ADC and its vision for a united and prosperous Nigeria. Together, we will continue to advance our agenda and serve the interests of the people we represent.”
The denial comes amid ongoing internal tensions in the ADC following recent leadership transitions and heightened political maneuvering as parties prepare for the next general election cycle.
