The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, has ordered the activation of all school protection mechanisms to bolster the security of students and staff across the state.

The directive was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, following a security meeting with tactical commanders to review the command’s operational strategies.

According to the statement, the move aligns with the order of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who recently directed police formations nationwide to prioritise the protection of educational institutions in light of rising attacks in northern Nigeria.

Shehu also ordered the deployment of additional personnel and resources to reinforce security in schools and surrounding communities.

He urged residents to support the police by providing timely information on suspicious movements or activities, stressing that community vigilance is critical to preventing further attacks.

The development comes as northern states continue to grapple with a surge in school invasions and mass abductions, particularly in Kebbi and Niger, prompting several governments to shut down schools as a precautionary measure.
