American rapper Onika Maraj-Petty, popularly known as Nicki Minaj, is set to speak at a United Nations event in New York on Tuesday, where she is expected to address reports of jihadist attacks targeting Christians in Nigeria.

Minaj will appear alongside the United States ambassador to the UN, Michael Waltz, and Alex Bruesewitz, a senior adviser to US President Donald Trump who is organising the event. The development was first disclosed on Sunday by Time magazine’s senior political correspondent, Eric Cortellessa, who shared details of the upcoming engagement on his X handle.

Ambassador Waltz later confirmed the report, praising Minaj as “not only arguably the greatest female recording artist, but also a principled individual who refuses to remain silent in the face of injustice.” He said he appreciated her willingness to use her platform to draw attention to what he described as “atrocities against Christians in Nigeria.”

Minaj, in her response, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and said she did not take the responsibility lightly. She stressed that she would “never stand down in the face of injustice,” adding that her global influence carried a greater purpose in moments like this.

The forthcoming event follows recent comments by President Trump, who alleged that a “Christian genocide” was underway in Nigeria and announced plans to designate the country as a “Country of Particular Concern.” He also urged the US Congress to act swiftly on the matter—remarks for which Minaj publicly commended him.

Nigeria’s Federal Government has repeatedly denied claims of religiously driven violence, insisting that the nation’s security challenges are rooted in criminality rather than faith-based persecution. Despite Abuja’s stance, US officials have continued to raise concerns over the situation.

Minaj’s appearance is expected to further spotlight the contentious issue, drawing global attention ahead of what could become a significant diplomatic flashpoint.
