Lagos, Nigeria — An Ikeja Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos State, on Wednesday discharged Comfort Emmanson, the passenger accused of unruly conduct and assault aboard an Ibom Air flight, following the withdrawal of all charges by the police.

Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami struck out the case after prosecution counsel, Oluwabunmi Adeitan, informed the court of new developments and formally applied for its withdrawal. The move followed a decision by Ibom Air to drop its complaint against Emmanson over the August 10 incident.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), confirmed that the resolution came after consultations with stakeholders in the aviation sector, appeals from concerned individuals, and consideration of the remorse shown by those involved.

“Ibom Air has agreed to withdraw its complaint against Ms. Emmanson,” Keyamo stated, noting that the decision was part of efforts to amicably resolve the matter and maintain industry harmony.

Emmanson was initially arraigned on Monday on five counts and granted bail in the sum of ₦500,000 with two sureties in like sum. However, she was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending fulfilment of her bail conditions.

With the withdrawal of charges, the court ordered her immediate discharge, bringing the high-profile case to a close.
