The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has launched an investigation into an incident involving renowned Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, over an alleged violation of aviation security regulations at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, the altercation occurred on Monday, August 5, 2025, during boarding procedures for ValueJet Airlines Flight VK 201, bound for Lagos.
FAAN said preliminary findings revealed that the musician attempted to bring a flask containing an unidentified liquid later confirmed to be alcohol on board the flight, contravening established security protocols.
“During boarding, the passenger attempted to carry an unidentified liquid substance on board despite repeated warnings from Aviation Security personnel and the Flight Captain,” the statement read.
Under international aviation safety standards and Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme, passengers are not allowed to bring liquids exceeding 100 millilitres in their hand luggage unless it is medically necessary and properly declared. FAAN stated that K1 De Ultimate was informed of this regulation but allegedly refused to comply.
The situation escalated when he reportedly spilled the contents of the flask on a security officer during a confrontation, prompting the Flight Captain to intervene. FAAN said the musician also resisted the captain’s efforts to de-escalate the matter.
After boarding was completed, the captain ordered the aircraft door to be shut. However, the musician allegedly refused to vacate the front area of the plane, further delaying the flight.
He was later escorted off the aircraft by the Aviation Security (AVSEC) crime unit for questioning. He was subsequently released, pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
FAAN condemned the disruption, reiterating that aviation safety and security protocols are non-negotiable, regardless of an individual’s status.
“The Authority will not tolerate any action that compromises operational integrity or undermines aviation safety standards, regardless of the individuals involved,” the statement noted.
FAAN assured the public that all parties found responsible would be held accountable in accordance with Nigerian aviation laws, and emphasized its continued commitment to safety, professionalism, and compliance at all airports across the country.
