ABUJA — Governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Nigeria’s North Central zone, along with top political leaders and stakeholders, have officially declared their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, citing his administration’s developmental efforts and progressive reforms.
The endorsement came during a high-level meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday night. According to a communiqué released Thursday and read by Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, the leaders unanimously passed a vote of confidence in President Tinubu and committed to mobilising full regional backing for his second-term bid.
Present at the meeting were a formidable coalition of political heavyweights, including Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Kogi Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, Benue Governor Hyacinth Alia, Niger Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, and SGF George Akume. The gathering also featured APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, former governors Simon Lalong, Yahaya Bello, and Abubakar Sani Bello, as well as key ministers from the zone.
The leaders commended President Tinubu’s “courage, foresight, and tenacity” in navigating the country through economic and security challenges, describing his leadership as a stabilising force amid global and domestic uncertainties.
“Having critically examined the current trajectory of national governance… we unanimously pass a vote of confidence in his administration,” the communiqué stated.
“We wholeheartedly endorse President Tinubu to contest for a second term as President… to consolidate the gains of his reforms and bring them to full fruition.”
The North Central governors expressed gratitude for the president’s focus on the zone’s infrastructure, education, agriculture, and rural electrification — efforts they believe are transforming the region into a beacon of opportunity.
They also celebrated the recent establishment of the North Central Development Commission, a long-demanded regional institution now led by individuals from the zone. Kwara Governor AbdulRazaq, who serves as the North Central APC Coordinator, described it as a “major victory” and credited Tinubu’s responsiveness to the region’s needs.
AbdulRazaq further highlighted the national forest guard policy as a landmark initiative prioritising security in local communities:
“This bold effort puts our people at the centre of national security. It will help protect forests and reduce threats to lives, property, and territorial integrity.”
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening APC grassroots structures, fostering internal party unity, and supporting national policies that target job creation, security enhancement, and economic revitalisation.
In his remarks, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje praised Tinubu for policies that have helped restore investor confidence and reform key national institutions. He said the president’s leadership had “repositioned the APC as the party of choice” in Nigeria.
“We thank Mr President for implementing positive reforms that make the APC attractive, allowing people to see it as the party to join,” Ganduje stated.
The endorsement signals a strong regional base for President Tinubu heading into the 2027 general elections, as the ruling party gears up to consolidate its hold on power amid emerging opposition alignments.
