Yenagoa, Bayelsa State – The Bayelsa State Government has officially lifted the employment ban on the state’s civil service, allowing qualified indigenes to apply for positions.

This was announced in a special statement signed by Dr. Stanley Sokari, the Permanent Secretary of the Civil Service Commission, on Tuesday.

Application Guidelines and Deadline

Interested candidates must submit their applications on or before March 21, 2025. Applications should be addressed to the Chairman, Bayelsa State Civil Service Commission, and must include:

  • The position being sought
  • Age, sex, home town, and local government area
  • Educational qualifications
  • Relevant professional certificates
  • Work experience

Background on the Employment Ban

The employment embargo was placed after the previous administration of Henry Seriake Dickson recruited 1,000 graduates into the civil service. The decision was primarily due to concerns over the state’s rising wage bill and alleged irregular employments conducted discreetly.

However, Governor Douye Diri has now approved new employment opportunities to strengthen the Bayelsa State Civil Service.

Next Steps

Qualified applicants are encouraged to submit their applications promptly before the deadline.
