The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation, and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) has arrested two teenagers, Abdullahi Idowu, 18, and Samson Ojo, 17, for allegedly stealing generator engine parts at the Idiroko border area in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
So-Safe Corps Commander, Soji Ganzallo, disclosed the arrests in a statement on Tuesday, issued through Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf, the agency’s Director of Information and Public Relations.
The suspects, residents of the Babaloke and Etikoto areas of Idiroko, were apprehended during a joint patrol by the corps’ Special Squad and Idiroko Divisional Team on November 17, 2024, at about 10:30 p.m.
“Upon their arrest, they were found with two bags containing stolen generator engine parts,” Ganzallo said.
Ex-Convict Among Suspects
Preliminary investigations revealed that Abdullahi Idowu is an ex-convict who previously served a jail term in the Benin Republic. He confessed to stealing the generator engine parts and admitted to an earlier theft of a large battery, which he sold to a scrap dealer.
During a follow-up visit to the scene of the crime at Idiroko, it was confirmed that the stolen items belonged to a customs office. Additional parts of the generator were recovered from a nearby bush.
Case Transferred for Further Investigation
The suspects and the recovered items have been handed over to the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun Area 1 Command, Idiroko, for further investigation.
This incident underscores the So-Safe Corps’ commitment to curbing criminal activities and maintaining security across Ogun State, particularly in border communities.
