The House of Representatives has extended its congratulations to the Edo State Governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, following his triumph in the recent Saturday governorship election. The House also applauded Dennis Idahosa, the deputy governor-elect and current lawmaker representing Ovia Federal Constituency, who serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Healthcare Services in the 10th Assembly.

Okpebholo and Idahosa, both members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), were declared winners by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after securing 291,667 votes. They defeated Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes, and Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata, who polled 22,763 votes.

In a statement issued by House spokesman Akin Rotimi on Monday, Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, described the election results as a clear reflection of the will of the Edo people. He praised the election of Idahosa, a sitting member of the House, highlighting the growing influence of parliamentarians in shaping governance across Nigeria.

“Edo people have spoken with their votes, expressing their desire for positive change and progress,” Abbas said, further emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the newly elected leaders in serving the state’s interests.

Speaker Abbas also urged both Okpebholo and Idahosa to work towards uniting Edo State, extending a hand of fellowship to their political opponents and fostering peace. He encouraged the new leaders to use their positions to drive policies that benefit the people and promote development, particularly in the oil-rich state.

In closing, the House of Representatives reiterated its commitment to supporting democracy and good governance, looking forward to the contributions of Okpebholo and Idahosa in their new capacities.
