Nigerian comedian and skitmaker, popularly known as Sanku, has died in a fatal accident along Ogbomoso Road in Oyo State.
His death was confirmed on Monday by actor Yemi Elesho, who shared the news on his social media pages.
Sanku, who gained popularity for his comic skits, had ironically released a video on August 4 in which he depicted himself in heaven after death. In the skit, he lamented the absence of people he expected to see and jokingly urged his partner to head to hell so they could “enjoy life together.”
Nollywood stars and fellow entertainers have taken to social media to mourn his passing. Actress Funmi Awelewa expressed heartbreak, writing:
“The pain, the effort, the strength, the struggle… walai nothing make sense. I’m heartbroken. Even film sef never come out! It does not make sense.”
Influencer Jidex also shared a video of the mangled vehicle from the crash, revealing that several passengers sustained injuries. According to him, Sanku and another victim were critically hurt, but the comedian later succumbed to his injuries.
“This is heartbreaking. Someone who left home in good health is suddenly gone. It is painful, especially coming just a day after the passing of Phyna’s sister, Ruth Otabor,” Jidex wrote.
Sanku’s sudden death has sparked an outpouring of grief across the entertainment industry, with fans and colleagues describing his passing as a huge loss to Nigeria’s fast-growing skit-making scene.
