BOGORO, Bauchi State – The Bogoro Local Government Area has officially screened over 3,000 applicants as part of a massive statewide recruitment drive aimed at revitalizing the Bauchi State Civil Service.
The exercise, held at the Bogoro Council Secretariat on Monday, is a critical phase of the initiative launched by Governor Bala Mohammed on December 12, 2025. The Governor’s mandate seeks to employ 10,000 residents across all 20 local government areas (LGAs) to bolster the state’s administrative workforce.
Ensuring Fair Representation
Speaking on behalf of the Local Government Chairman, Lawi Sumi, the Deputy Chairman, Hon. Mulki Masoyi, highlighted that the primary goal of the physical screening is to verify the residency and ward-level authenticity of each applicant.
“The objective of the screening is to identify the applicants, based on their ward, in line with the guidelines set by the Bauchi State Civil Service Commission,” Masoyi stated.
The emphasis on ward-based identification is part of a broader strategy to ensure that the 10,000 new positions are distributed equitably across the state, preventing any single region from being overrepresented.
Integrity of the Process
Amidst concerns regarding nepotism in public recruitment, the committee issued a firm assurance that the selection process would be governed by merit and transparency. Key highlights of the screening protocol include:
- Neutrality: The committee vowed to avoid “sentiments” to ensure justice for all candidates.
- Indigene Verification: Applicants flagged as non-indigenes have not been disqualified but will be required to “defend their applications” in a specialized session before moving to the next stage.
- Orderly Conduct: Officials commended the thousands of youth in attendance for their peaceful and professional behavior during the high-stakes exercise.
The Road Ahead
This recruitment drive comes at a time of significant transition for the Nigerian workforce, following recent labor strikes in the FCTA and crackdowns on pension extortion in other states like Oyo. By utilizing an online recruitment portal for the initial phase, Bauchi State officials hope to set a new standard for digital infrastructure and transparency in local governance.
Successful candidates from this screening phase are expected to undergo further examinations and interviews as the state nears its goal of a 10,000-strong workforce expansion.
