The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 53-year-old farmer, Oloyede David, for allegedly stealing three bags of pineapples from a fellow farmer’s plantation in Orile-Ilugun, Odeda Local Government Area.

The theft, valued at approximately ₦90,000, was reported by another farmer who spotted David illegally harvesting pineapples from a plantation owned by Ola Omotayo, an indigene of Ilesa, Osun State.

How the Suspect Was Caught

According to a community source, David was seen harvesting pineapples that did not belong to him.

“A local farmer in the area spotted the suspect and immediately alerted other farmers, who helped apprehend him,” the source revealed.

The farm owner, Omotayo, later confirmed the theft, alleging that pineapples worth ₦650,000 and a pumping machine valued at ₦180,000 had previously been stolen from her farm.

Police Confirm Arrest

Ogun Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed that officers from the Orile-Ilugun outstation arrested David around 11:58 AM on Tuesday.

“The suspect was caught with three bags of pineapples, and the farm owner confirmed the theft. He has been taken to the station along with the stolen produce, and the Divisional Crime Branch has taken over the case,” Odutola said.

Rising Incidents of Farm Theft in Ogun

This arrest follows a similar case in January when police in the same local government arrested Akintoye Waris for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a Savannah he-goat worth ₦200,000 for his child’s naming ceremony.

The Ogun Police Command has urged farmers and community members to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to prevent further incidents of farm theft.
