The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has raised the alarm over a fake notice regarding the 2025 local government elections that is currently making the rounds on social media and various online platforms.

In an official statement released on Friday, the Chairman of LASIEC, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (retd), disclaimed the document, stressing that it did not originate from the commission.

“It has come to the attention of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) of the fake 2025 notice of elections currently circulating on social media and various online platforms, purportedly from the commission,” the statement read.

The commission urged the public, especially political parties and stakeholders in the electoral process, to disregard the unauthorized publication.

“Such notice of election did not emanate from the commission,” LASIEC stated unequivocally. “We hereby advise citizens, in particular, political parties and all other critical stakeholders, to disregard such publications.”

LASIEC also reiterated its commitment to due process, affirming that the conduct of local government elections in the state remains firmly rooted in the legal framework guiding electoral procedures.

“The commission hereby reiterates that the conduct of local government election in Lagos State is a process that is guided by laws,” the statement continued. “At the appropriate time as stipulated by law, the official notice of election shall be published in various newspapers.”

The commission’s response comes amid a rise in misinformation surrounding political events, prompting renewed calls for vigilance and verification among the electorate and political stakeholders.
