As Easter celebrations approach, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State has called on motorists to obey traffic rules to ensure a safe and incident-free holiday period.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, Mr Memee Timothy, the Ifo Unit Commander of FRSC, warned against common traffic violations that often lead to fatal accidents during festive periods.
“Motorists should refrain from speeding, wrongful overtaking, and driving against traffic — all of which could lead to unnecessary loss of lives during Easter,” Timothy said.
He further cautioned against overloading, drunk driving, and operating vehicles without valid driver’s licences, describing these behaviors as major contributors to road crashes.
To ensure the safety of road users, Timothy revealed that FRSC personnel would be strategically deployed across major highways and road construction zones throughout the holiday. These officers will focus on traffic management, emergency response, and vehicle compliance checks.
“Our men will be stationed at key points to monitor traffic, respond swiftly to emergencies, and arrest offenders, particularly those overloading vehicles or driving without valid documentation,” he stated.
In light of the anticipated surge in travel, Timothy appealed to motorists to cooperate with FRSC officials and other security agencies to ensure a smooth Easter period for all.
“We are committed to ensuring that everyone reaches their destination safely,” he said.
The FRSC’s Easter safety campaign is part of a nationwide initiative to reduce road accidents and fatalities during one of the busiest travel seasons in Nigeria.
