A fire outbreak on Monday gutted the radio studio of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State, destroying equipment and property worth millions of naira.

According to reports, the fire was triggered by an electrical surge from the studio’s air-conditioning system. The blaze quickly spread through the facility before firefighters arrived to contain it.

Confirming the incident on Tuesday, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, said firefighters led by PFS 11 Makinde responded swiftly after receiving a distress call.

“When they arrived, the studio was engulfed in flames and smoke. They managed to stop the fire from spreading to other areas. No casualty was recorded, and we were able to save properties worth millions of naira,” Akinwande said.

He urged the public to always keep fire extinguishers handy and use them effectively to prevent small fires from escalating into major disasters.

The incident comes just days after a fire outbreak gutted the head office of Fresh 105.9 FM in Ibadan on August 16, according to a statement signed by Samson Akindele, Group Head of Corporate Affairs for Fresh FM Nigeria and Yinka Ayefele Limited.

Earlier, on July 9, 2025, another fire incident razed five out of 10 shops in Ibadan, also destroying property worth millions of naira.

The string of recent fire incidents has raised concerns over safety standards and preventive measures in public and private institutions across Oyo State.
