ILORIN, NIGERIA — The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 28 suspected internet fraudsters in a recent raid conducted in Kwara State. The arrests, part of a targeted sting operation, took place in the early hours of Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in various locations across the state capital.
The Operation
The EFCC’s Ilorin Zonal Directorate launched the operation based on credible intelligence regarding the activities of ‘yahoo-yahoo’ boys in the area. The suspects were apprehended in different parts of Ilorin, including Tanke, University Road, Oshin, and Agbabiaka. The raid is part of the commission’s ongoing efforts to curb the rising menace of cybercrime in Nigeria.
Seized Items
During the operation, the EFCC team recovered several items from the suspects, believed to have been used for their illicit activities. These include:

  • Seven exotic cars, including a Toyota Corolla and a Lexus.
  • Two motorcycles.
  • Multiple mobile phones and laptops.
The EFCC stated that the suspects will be charged in court as soon as investigations are concluded. The commission’s chairman, Ola Olukoyede, has repeatedly warned that internet fraud is not only damaging Nigeria’s international image but is also contributing to issues like stricter visa restrictions for innocent Nigerians.
