Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano South Senatorial District have appealed to Senator Sulaiman Kawu Sumaila to return to the party, citing his political influence and capacity to unite members across the zone.
The appeal was made on Tuesday during a press conference held in Albasu town, where APC Chairmen, Secretaries, and Ward Leaders from all 16 local government areas of Kano South were present.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Albasu LGA Chairman, Iliyasu Hungu, said Sumaila’s return would significantly boost the APC’s strength and cohesion ahead of future elections.
“There is no doubt that Senator Sumaila will add immense value to our great party if he answers our call and returns to the APC,” Hungu stated. “We know Senator Sumaila’s capacity and value in Kano politics.”
Senator Sumaila currently represents Kano South in the Senate under the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), having left the APC prior to the 2023 general elections.
Hungu said the APC leadership is seeking support from key party figures, including APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and Kano State APC Chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, to help pacify and persuade Sumaila to rejoin the party.
“We really miss him and we are calling on him to return and join us in promoting the party together,” Hungu added.
The call highlights ongoing efforts within the APC to consolidate political forces in Kano State, a key battleground in northern Nigeria.
