House of Representatives member Alhassan Ado-Doguwa has issued an apology to the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for comments he made during the 2024 Ede Day celebrations.

The lawmaker, who represented Speaker Tajudeen Abass at the event, faced criticism from the Osun APC after praising Governor Ademola Adeleke’s achievements, a statement perceived as undermining the APC. He was reported to have said, “It appears to me that Osun is like a no-go area,” which the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state capitalized on for political gains.

Ado-Doguwa Denies Intent to Undermine APC

In a statement released Tuesday, Ado-Doguwa clarified his position, emphasizing his loyalty to the APC and describing his comments as misinterpreted.

“I remain the chief promoter of the All Progressives Congress across the country, including in Osun State. I never meant to embarrass or criticize my mother’s party in any way.”

The Kano lawmaker accused the Osun PDP of exploiting his remarks to advance their political agenda:

“The PDP in Osun misused my comments to suit their local political struggles. This was a deliberate attempt to gain political advantage.”

Apology to the APC Family

Addressing APC members in Osun, Ado-Doguwa expressed remorse and pledged continued support for the party:

“I wish to tender my unreserved apologies to our APC family in Osun State. Please accept my heartfelt apologies. By God’s grace, the days of the PDP are numbered in Osun State. In 2026, our party will bounce back in the state, Insha Allah.”

Background and Reactions

The Osun APC had earlier called for an investigation into Ado-Doguwa’s remarks, accusing him of demarketing the party. The controversy added to ongoing tensions between the APC and the PDP in the state, with both sides frequently clashing over issues such as governance and debt profiles.

Ado-Doguwa’s apology aims to mend fences within the APC and realign the party’s efforts toward reclaiming political ground in Osun State.
