Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, convened a meeting with stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the state’s 18 local government areas, emphasizing the importance of peace and unity in preparation for the upcoming governorship election. The meeting, the first since the governor’s inauguration, aimed to bring together all factions within the party.
Expressing gratitude for the party leaders’ support, Aiyedatiwa called for a collective effort to move the APC and the state forward. He acknowledged past political events, characterizing them as mere politics, and stressed the need for party members to unite as one big family.
Aiyedatiwa stated, “There is the need to make our party stronger and that necessitated the idea of this enlarged stakeholders meeting to bring everybody on board. Our party leaders and members are critical stakeholders that we cannot afford to neglect.” He addressed concerns raised by party officers at local levels, pledging to give them the recognition they deserve.
The governor affirmed his commitment to liaise with the party’s leadership, ensuring smooth operations and regular engagement with stakeholders. Speaking about the upcoming governorship election, Aiyedatiwa urged party leaders to promote peaceful conduct among aspirants and their followers, emphasizing the importance of a rancor-free primary election and a peaceful gubernatorial election in the state.
Paying tribute to former governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Aiyedatiwa promised to collaborate with the family for a fitting state burial and to immortalize Akeredolu’s name and legacies. He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his interest in the peace and development of Ondo State, highlighting the president’s satisfaction with the current tranquility in the state.
APC State Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, commended the governor for engaging party stakeholders promptly and urged leaders to put past differences behind them for the sake of unity leading up to the governorship election. The meeting included members of the State House of Assembly, State Executive Council, former Deputy Governors, former State Chairman of the party, and other notable figures.
