The Organised Labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), along with oil and gas unions and other affiliate unions, initiated a mass protest on Wednesday against what they described as “anti-people” policies of President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) government. The protest, which took place in various states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, and Lagos, led to the forceful breach of the first gate of the National Assembly (NASS) complex.
The protesters, expressing their discontent, went on to besiege the second gate of the National Assembly, prompting the Senate to hold an immediate closed-door session in response to the situation.
The mass protest, attended by demonstrators from states such as Abia, Plateau, Kaduna, Kano, Rivers, Zamfara, Katsina, Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu, Kwara, Ogun, Imo, Ondo, and Edo, began at the Unity Fountain before proceeding to the National Assembly premises.
The Organised Labour, representing a united front against the government’s policies, sought to draw attention to their concerns and grievances regarding the perceived adverse impact of President Tinubu’s administration on the welfare of the people.
