In a significant development, Jerry Alagbaoso, a member of the House of Representatives, has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
During Tuesday’s session, Alagbaoso read a letter on the House floor expressing his reasons for the defection and highlighting the internal challenges within the Imo State chapter of the PDP.
This defection could potentially impact the PDP’s prospects in the upcoming November governorship election in the state.
Alagbaoso stated, “There are deep-rooted issues within the Imo State PDP. This becomes evident when considering the recent defections of three of our colleagues from Imo State, who were also members of the PDP in the House of Representatives. I cannot remain an exception, considering the prevailing confusion and challenges faced by the PDP in Imo. The situation within Imo PDP is unsatisfactory to both those who have crossed over and to me personally.
Reacting to this defection, Speaker Gbajabiamila referred to it as a major earthquake, underscoring the significance of the event within the political landscape.
