Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has attributed the surge in kidnappings and violence in Nigeria, particularly in the federal capital Abuja, to the deepening poverty and hunger prevailing in the country. The ex-presidential candidate, in a statement on his official handle, expressed distress over the unchecked reign of terror by bandits and kidnappers, leading to the loss of innocent lives.

Atiku called on the authorities to urgently address the escalating security situation, emphasizing the need to fulfill constitutional obligations and protect the lives and property of citizens. He highlighted the tragic incidents, including the recent kidnapping and murder of 13-year-old student Folorunsho Ariyo, among others, in Sagwari Estate Layout, Dutse, Bwari Area Council of the FCT.

The former vice president lamented the impact of poverty and hunger on the rising insecurity, stating that when the government fails in its duty to safeguard citizens, it provides an opportunity for criminal elements to operate freely. Atiku urged swift action to regain the trust of the Nigerian people and ensure the safety of the populace.

Expressing condolences to the families of the deceased, Atiku called on the Almighty to grant them comfort, offer eternal peace to the departed, and safeguard the nation from further harm.
