The All Progressives Congress (APC) finds itself in the midst of internal turmoil over the appointment of Principal Officers for the 10th National Assembly, with President Bola Tinubu maintaining a conspicuous silence on the matter. While the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, engages in a battle with the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, challenging their decisions, President Tinubu has refrained from making any statements as the leader of the ruling APC.

Adamu, during an interaction with APC Governors, expressed his protest, stating that the party leaders and members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) were not involved in the decision-making process for the appointment of principal officers in both chambers of the federal legislature. He voiced his dissatisfaction with learning about the appointments through online publications, emphasizing that the APC NWC members had not received any information or communication regarding the choice of officers. Adamu warned that unless they formally resolve and communicate with the National Assembly leadership in writing, any announcements made by the Senate President and the Speaker of the House cannot be considered official statements from the APC Secretariat.

While the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, announced the appointment of principal officers for the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas, made similar announcements for the House, these appointments have faced challenges from the APC national chairman.

Amidst the escalating controversy, President Tinubu’s silence has led to skepticism and mutual suspicion among some APC stalwarts. They express concerns that the presiding officers of the National Assembly may have made these decisions to advance the interests of the President or to position the President’s loyalists within the legislative body. This speculation surrounding the President’s silence fuels further uncertainty within the party.

As the internal strife within the APC deepens, party members eagerly await President Tinubu’s position on the matter, as his response will likely have significant implications for the party’s unity and cohesion.
